Like other spiders peacock spiders possess venom and they use it to kill their prey, small flies, moths and other insects. For humans though they are completely harmless. Over a ten year period in which I have handled dozens of species, thousands of times, I have not seen the slightest inclination by any individual to bite me or anyone else who handled them.
